2016 President’s Putter – Ace For Turner, Maiden Victory Toast For Perkins

Dundonald Links, Scotland. There was celebrations aplenty yesterday at the opening event of the 2016  AGW ‘Scottish Swing’. Dick Turner aced the par three 6th hole at Dundonald and Rob Perkins, a member of the AGW for some five years, raced to a five point victory in his maiden AGW – ETIQUS Golfer of the Year event. Dick indicated it was the second hole-in-one of his career and vigorously denied suggestions his tee shot cannoned off the 2.30pm Prestwick to Glasgow Scot Rail train. He was presented with a bottle of Glenmorangie for his achievement. Rob highlighted his round of 39 Stableford points with two outward half birdies going out in 21 and home with 18 points off his 15 handicap. Unfortunately, Dick’s stroke of brilliance at six didn’t ignite any challenge on the leaders as managed only to amass 20 points. Fergus Bisset was second with 34 points while Alistair Tait and our new Chairman Iain Carter were tied third with 33 points. Alistair’s effort sees him extend his lead in the 2016 – AGW ETIQUS Golfer of the Year (See points table below) We welcomed three guests and they were former Irish Times writer Paul Gallagher, renowned photographer Dave Cannon and the European Tour’s  Michael Gibbons. A special thanks to Martin Dempster for all his arrangements in working with the club. Also thank you to Event Scotland, Aberdeen Asset Management and the European Tour for the ‘goodie’s presented to everyone in attendance. And lastly, we extend our gratitude to Dundonald in hosting the AGW, and on a day it was officially announced the 2017 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open will be played at Dundonald Links.
