AGW NEWSLETTER – DECEMBER 2023

A small December 2023 AGW newsletter but with a big message and that is to wish all members of the Assocation, along with our good friends and supporters a Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

Trust it is a relaxing festive season shared with family and friends.

Just a few items to mention starting with some recent news from AGW members.

Gordon Richardson sends his best wishes to all the members advising he and Louisette are ‘chugging along’ despite some recent health issues though admitting he’s struggling in watching TV coverage of the golf with all the new names competing these days.

You’re not alone Gordon.

Gordon joined the Association back in 1966 and advises he’s now been happily living in France since 1997, and the year he retired.  As well, he’s also enjoying the fact his brother and his wife live close by.

Wishing Gordon and Louisette all the best for the Christmas/New Year season.

Alan Hedley also emailed me to say he has been sidelined for a while with heart problems but he’s glad to advise members: “I’m on the mend after a double stent operation so our wonderful NHS looked to have saved my life and second time”.

If you’d like to drop Alan a line you can at: email hidden; JavaScript is required">email hidden; JavaScript is required

Here’s also best wishes to Alan and he quickly gets himself back to full health.

Ethel Farquaharsonhas been in touch to pass on Colin’s and her best wishes to all the members.

I was in contact, as well, with Jenni Lowden and Micky Britten’s daughter and writing how the landscape of golf reporting has changed so much since Micky worked on the European Tour.

Remembering also that January 5th will mark five years since he passed away.

JUSTIN ROSE

It was great to see The PGA also recognise Justin Rose with a ‘Recognition’ award for his services to golf, and this after the AGW honoured both Justin and his wife Kate for their work with the ‘Rose Ladies Series’ at July’s AGW annual dinner.

THE AGW SANTA SPOTTED

I am receiving emails confirming the AGW Santa has been spotted in many parts of the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Firstly, your Secretary is not guilty and I’m pointing the finger at our much-loved Santa … sorry, I meant Treasurer, Peter Higgs.

FRANCIS PATRICK ‘PADDY’ MEARING

Paddy’s 90th birthday celebration – Passed away aged 96

And on a sad note and that is remind members the celebration of Paddy Mearing’s life will take place with a private service and committal at the Vale Royal Crematorium, Northwich Friday, December 22nd, at 12 noon.

If we could find time at noon (UK time) Friday to raise a glass in memory of Paddy.

I will have more AGW ‘business’ news in next month’s first newsletter of 2024.

Once again, season’s greetings to all.

Secretary.
