A message from Tom Carlisle (European Tour media team)

After nearly a decade with the European Tour group, the Genesis Championship was my 121st and final event as my family and I have made the decision to emigrate to Australia, leaving the UK and the Tour at the start of December.

I wanted to drop the AGW a note to say it has been a privilege working alongside you and sharing some incredible moments in our sport over the last few years (not least Tyrrell Hatton’s press conference at September’s BMW PGA). The media centres I’ve had the opportunity to work in would not have been the same without you all, and who can forget the Sunday afternoon Zoom calls with our tournament winners during Covid times?

Thank you for being a huge factor in what has made my work so enjoyable over the years. I’m sure my path will cross with a number of you in the future, but if you did want to keep in touch, please drop me a note at email hidden; JavaScript is required

Best wishes,

Tom

Nick Wright

As mentioned in an email last week, Nick Bayly let us know of the recent death of former Golf World editor Nick Wright. Nick (B) has also sent on the following message from Facebook from Nick’s wife Susan and his two boys George and Henry:

“In keeping with Nick’s wishes, there won’t be a traditional funeral. Instead, we’ll be holding a celebration of his life – a chance to remember his laughter, his warmth, and the countless memories we shared. We’d love everyone to wear a blue t-shirt or shirt, his favourite colour, in his honour.

Please join us at Burghley Golf Club in Stamford on Saturday, November 29th from 2pm as we come together to celebrate the wonderful man he was, and the love he leaves behind. Having his friends and family there would mean the world to us.”

Alan Hedley

Member Alan Hedley has been in touch to let us know what he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. “It was a bit of a shock when we found out, but the good news is that it looks like it has been detected early and it looks like the NHS, which has saved my life twice before, reckon they can complete the hat-trick. Treatment has already started and it’s fingers crossed. I hope to be able to catch up with AGW members when I’m better.”

Take care of yourself, Alan, and best wishes from everyone.

Deric Henderson

I’ve also been in touch with Deric Henderson to check on his health. Deric looked after the media for Royal Portrush ahead of the Open in July, but was diagnosed with cancer just days before the championship began. He reports: “After seven weeks in hospital, I’m now getting chemo twice a week and this recovery process is set to continue until the Spring. I’m in a much better place than I was four months ago and confident I’ll get back to playing golf again at some stage. Even now I still can’t believe I missed the Open. The AGW dinner was a huge success and I’m delighted Rory rocked up in his Masters blazer. I’m missing all Irish golf writers’ events but I take great strength from all the support I’ve received, and continue to receive, from so many colleagues.”
