Open Champion Henrik Stenson has singled out his very good friend and our own colleague and AGW President, Goran Zachrisson for special mention ahead of his defence in July of the Claret Jug.

Stenson, who will be honoured with the AGWs Golfer of the Year award at this year’s annual dinner, was asked during a pre-Open press conference Tuesday if there had been any memorable moments he has enjoyed with the Claret Jug since being presented with the trophy at Royal Troon.

Stenson went on to reveal such items as champagne, wine along with Coca-Cola and Sprite had been consumed from the Jug.

But there was one moment Stenson indicated, that stands out near 11 months after winning golf’s oldest Major.

“I think the best evening would have had to be the eve of winning it,” Stenson said.

“It was with Swedish golf commentator Goran Zachrisson, I think it was his 50th Open Championship that he was commentating.

“Obviously even he had started to doubt if we were ever going to see a Swedish male win a major championship.

“So, I managed to win it and he was there and invited him to a little after-party and he got to drink out of the Claret Jug and that was a special moment for sure.”

Goran, Hearty congratulations from your many colleagues and friends at the AGW.
