Wallasey member Derek Lawrenson was in the clubhouse with an earlier 37 points before being joined by Dave Edwards but with Derek enjoying a better back nine but that was before Andy handed in his scorecard and three points more than both Derek and Dave.

Derek, who played off an adjusted 8 handicap, drew on his home course knowledge with a steady display of 19 outward points and 18 home run points.

Dave got his round off to a flyer, playing off an ‘adjusted’ handicap of 23, with 11 points in his opening five holes. He didn’t score on five or six but grabbed 10 points over his closing three outward holes ahead of also wiping two inward half holes but finishing strongly.

Defending champion Colin Harding produced an impressive 36 points.

Fourteen members teed-up at Wallasey enjoying lunch beforehand and then taking to the course for a second straight year.

As mentioned, it was an ideal day under bright sunshine and with a little breeze to keep everyone honest.

Andy Waple’s winning 2023 Ron Moseley scorecard

Dave Edwards share of second along with Brian McLauchlin’s 34 points helped set the scene for a two-man showdown in heading the next day to Royal Liverpool for the season-ending Golf Writers Championship, and with Dave moving to 88 points and just four behind Brian, who became the new leader in the ETIQUS AGW Race to Royal Liverpool standings on 92 points.

In mentioning ETIQUS it was great that Gary Butler could join us at both Wallasey and Royal Liverpool.
