AGW GOLF CAPTAIN – POSITION VACANT

One last AGW Golf theme in this newsletter and that is to remind members Peter Dixon is stepping down as AGW Golf Captain at the close of this year’s AGW Golf Writers Championship at Royal Liverpool in late August.

In looking for a new AGW Golf Captain, and if you feel you can spare the time, please email me.

AGW TRIBUTES TO JOHN INGHAM AND PETER HASLAM

Just changing the theme and, as we know, the AGW received sad news within two days last month with the passing of two members in John Ingham and Peter Haslam.

I have received a handful of tributes to John but somewhat disappointingly just the one tribute to Peter, and knowing members are busy, perhaps those who knew John and/or Peter would like to still offer their tribute.

I’m sure John’s wife, Sally and Peter’s daughter, Sarah will be pleased to read them, as I promised to them.

Footnote ….

Patricia Davies must have been looking over my shoulder, as I was just about to send this newsletter off to the members and this wonderful photograph of Renton Laidlaw, Patricia and John arrived in the email.

Patricia, Thank you so much.  I immediately posted the photograph on the AGW tribute page to John: https://www.agwgolf.org/john-ingham-1932-2023-agw-member-1958-2023/

GARY D’AMATO APPOINTED NEW PRESIDENT OF THE GWAA

The AGW has reached out to Gary D’Amato to congratulate him on his appointment as the new President of the Golf Writers Association of America.

New GWAA President Gary D’Amato

Gary takes over from Beth Ann Nichols, who created GWAA history in becoming the Association’s first woman president, and with the AGW also congratulation Beth Ann on her work as President.

Good news also with joint GWAA and AGW member Rex Hoggard (The Golf Channel) moving up to first GWAA first vice-president.

ART SPANDER

I was noticing also in the recent GWAA newsletter that Art Spander, and also a member of the AGW, was present at his 56th Masters earlier this month. What an achievement!  Congratulations, Art from all your friends at the AGW.

Lastly, and I know I have been mentioning this for some time, as a 2023/24 AGW members handbook is in the final stage of checking contacts etc and will be off to the printers later this week.

Thank you for everyone’s patience.
