AGW NEWSLETER – SEPTEMBER 2023

It has been a very busy recent fews days of golf reporting for many of our members while the AGW itself staged two big events in bringing to a close a successful 2023 AGW golfing season.

What I have done with this ‘All AGW Golf’ newsletter is bring to the members and our friends reports (via the AGW website) from two events – the Ron Moseley Memorial Salver and the season-ending AGW Golf Writers Championship along with the crowning of a new ETIQUS – AGW ‘Race to Royal Liverpool’ Golfer of the Year.

As well, I am providing a website link to the final points standings.

However, firstly I wish to start by recognising the superb efforts of Peter Dixon who has stepped-down after some eight years as AGW Golf Captain.

EDWARDS WINS AGW GOLF WRITERS CHAMPIONSHIP & ETIQUS – AGW ‘RACE TO HOYLAKE’ GOLFER OF THE YEAR DOUBLE

It is a remarkable story with Dave Edward’s some 1,200 mile round journey from his residence north of Aberdeen to tee-up at Royal Mid-Surrey in May, and how a paltry 13 Stableford points he earned helped him capture the ETIQUS – AGW ‘Race to Hoylake’ Golfer of the Year by 11 points.

Of course, it was helped in Dave finishing joint runner-up at the Ron Moseley Memorial Salver and brilliantly capped with victory a day later at Royal Liverpool.

Dave was naturally emotional in honouring a wish from to his not well wife, Yvonne to bring the Fred Pignon trophy home to her.

A little car trouble on the way home north meant Dave did not arrive back to his residence to around 2am Thursday morning but his double victory delighted Yvonne. His efforts in going to remarkable lengths in attending four of the five 2023 AGW golf events (He could not attend the R & A media outing as he’s currently retired) is an inspiration to us all.
